Printing Organs?

November 23, 2010
« Back to Topic
Tissue engineering has been a rapidly growing field of medical and technological advancement. In recent years they've explored converting printers (that would print with ink) in organ printers that utilize cells as their material for 3d printing. Gabor Forgacs is a lead researcher in this field. As of 2007 his research concluded that the whole process may be more hands free than previously thought and that cells do not need to be controlled on reconstruction, "Nature is smart enough to do the job." Organovo, a start up that Forgacs is involved in aims at advancing this field via organ tissue donation to pharmaceutical companies for testing.
